Tips Before Starting...
- Increase or decrease the water or butter for your desired consistency. Dry climates may require up to double the mount of added liquid to achieve desired consistency.
- Mix on low to medium to avoid air bubbles
- If using shortening - we suggest using high ratio shortening (not Crisco or meat fat shortenings)
- Use butter that is softened to room temperature
Step by Step Instructions
Medium consistency, most versatile applications
Using paddle attachment on electric mixer or beaters on hand mixer:
![]() | Step 1: Prepare ingredients – Buttercream Icing Mix, softened butter, cool water, stand mixer |

![]() | Step 3: Mix medium speed for 1-2 mins until butter is incorporated and smooth, scrape sides as necessary |
![]() | Step 4: Mix low/medium speed, slowly add water until incorporated |
![]() | Step 5: Mix another 1-2 minutes until smooth and you're ready to use! |
Alternate Consistency Recipes:
By adjusting the amounts of butter or water that are added to the icing mix, you can create a buttercream consistency that is soft, medium or firm. Tip: If needed, double the water in dry climates
