Describe the cake, details and techniques:
Most of this cake's focus, as you can see, are butterflies. Even within the ruffles they are finding places to land. The gold lines and shapes were inspired by the markings and patterns you see in butterfly wings, as were the "eyespots" you see on the cake which really started to make it come to life.
The perfectly placed gum paste butterflies in peach and white were the final touch to the cake, adding true purpose to the composition. For the ruffling technique I used 50/50 gum paste and fondant, I used square pieces and added texture to them using a fondant fabric embosser.

The cake was designed for the 2017 cake collaboration "The Butterfly Project," started by Kyla Hatcher Myers.
How much time did you spend creating this cake?
I spent about 30 hours on the cake.
What do you do while you work?
I concentrate mostly but listen to music sometimes - usually in the design process and the TV is always on in the background.
