Describe the cake, details and techniques:
I created this cake for an autumn inspired styled shoot. The color palette is marsala/wine and shades of pink for contrast. For the bottom tier I wanted some flow but with a rough look showing some sign of decay - so I covered it with ragged ruffles. The texture continues in the second tier, which is covered with broken petals in soft pink. (Yes, I made the petals and broke them on purpose! Great stress relieving technique).

I left the top tier quite clean to keep the attention on the sugar flowers arrangement.

What is the inspiration for this winning cake?
I was inspired by the bab'ye leto (indian summer) in Russia, my country of origin. Those days in autumn when it's warm - the sun is shining and the colors are bold. I wanted to show that moment in nature when colors are rich. The flowers of the season are in shades of deep red and wine - and you can already see signs of decay in the wilting leaves and fallen petals.
How much time did you spend creating this cake?
It took about 3 days - most of the time was spent on the sugar flowers.
What do you do while you work?
I like to keep it quiet when I’m working.
Sometimes when I’m doing something monotonous, I will put some music on or listen to a podcast.
