Describe the cake, details and techniques:
For this cake I wanted to create drama while keeping it monochromatic. The Satin Ice Pearl Shimmer fondant is perfect for that, it adds just a little something interesting to the cake.
For the bottom tier, I use a multi shaped gelatin glitter and the top I manipulated torn layered wafer paper by rolling it outward in each layer.
What is the inspiration for this winning cake?
My inspiration came accidentally one day while making wafer paper snow. I tore the paper to put in the blender and the way it tore in layers spoke to me. I did not use the piece that day. I saved it for this cake and I just love the way it has an organic flow to it. Probably because it was not intentional or over thought out.
How much time did you spend creating this cake?
Over all the decorating of this cake took me about 3 hours to create the roses and 5 hours to assemble. It's simple and I really enjoy that.
What do you do while you work?
I listen to music while I work almost 90% of the time. I love to listen to older funk and soul music. George Benson, Teddy Pendergrass and The O'Jays just to name a few. Sometimes my husband will play acoustic guitar and sing for me.
