Describe the cake, details and techniques:
This cake was made for a pre-wdding photoshoot session organized by The Confetti Jar - a creative local event planner in Saudi Arabia. The session theme was metallics, greenery and pinkish details. Thus, the cake incorporated the simplicity of geometric shapes and the elegance of metallics with a subtle antique finish.
The two top tiers were decorated with 32 separate octagons made with Satin Ice gum paste. The octagons were adorned with hand-painted lines in various shades of gold, and arranged in an overlapping way to give the cake a sense of depth.
The bottom tier is wrapped with a slightly marbled piece of fondant with hand-brushed gold rose edges sprinkled with Himalayan salt to add an antique finish to the cake.
The wired geometric heart topper, provided by the client, was added to reinforce the metallic touch to match the photoshoot theme.
What is the inspiration for this winning cake?
Since the photoshoot design involved metallics and geometric-shaped details, the event planner and the bride loved the idea of having layered hexagons sugar slices they previously saw. So, we decided to include what the bride loved and create a unique design with the addition of an antique finish, rose gold edges and the wired metallic heart topper inspired by the design concept of the photoshoot.
How much time did you spend creating this cake?
Approximately 3 days from baking to the last touch of decorating.
What do you do while you work?
I usually love listening to instrumental, relaxing, uplifting music or supplications during working on my cakes. Sometimes, I prefer total silence when working on the super fine little details. It all depends on the mood.
