About Beth Townsend
Beth Townsend is a cake artist living in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Growing up with a passion for art and a love of sweets, cake art seemed to be her perfect calling. Coming from a large family of 9 children with loving and supportive parents, all were encouraged to be artistic with crafting, sewing, painting or anything to express creativity. In her previous profession she was a faux painter and wood finisher for 17 years working a custom wood working company. After seeing cake craft on TV she decided to try her hand. Transitioning into art on cakes was a natural fit due to her love of creating and SUGAR. She happily traded sandpaper and paint for cake and icing. With a lot of trial and error, her specialty in cake became doing sculpted realistic looking, gravity defying designs. Her father Bob Townsend, an accomplished inventor, helped her evolve the internal form structure and basic architecture needed to push the limits on her extraordinary designs.
Beth has been seen in the 6 episode long show on the Food Network called Cake Wars Christmas: Season 1 taking 1st place with the winning team “The Jack Frosters”. Her cake was also seen on the nationally televised show “The Vanilla Ice House Project” on the DIY channel. In January 2017 she appeared on Cake Hunters (The Cooking Channel) and is working on a new Food Network program that will air spring 2017. Beths' work has been featured on a variety of websites, blogs and magazines to include The Wellington Magazine and The Palm Beach Post. Beth focuses a majority of her passion and creative time on her charity work. Collaborating with the non-profit organization, Icing Smiles, she goes all out to deliver a memorable and personalized experience to children with terminal illness while bringing awareness to the organization and their cause.
Teaching others how to make amazing cakes is another major focus for Beth. From one on one sessions, to her business website CakeProShop, and participation with Creativiu (an online creative tutorial site), she has mentored thousands of cake beginners who wish to learn and create masterpieces of their own.
Beth and her father Bob, are also developing a specialized tool set, to help caker and non-cakers alike, recreate her amazing designs with little effort but all the reward. She and her creative family, through the work of their company, Cake Effects, hope to simplify the cake decorating experience so every home can have an impressive celebration cake, because after all… everyone loves cake and anyone can be a cake Hero!
