Satin Ice Cake of the Month:
Be amazed how Tanya Halas transformed fashion into cake art!

Describe the cake, details and techniques: A couture fashion translation. I began with the flower petals on the first tier. I created hundreds of them by using the smallest rose petal cutter and dusted them in lush purples.
The second tier was an oversized flounce and I attempted to create an exaggerated ruffle and movement effect by adding plastic dowels underneath the fondant - and removed them once dry.
The third tier was pinstriped. I created the texture by using a ribbed rolling pin and then used an extruder with black fondant to fill in the grooves.
The cuffs of the pinstripe pants and the shoes inspired the fourth and final tier. I gave it a ruching effect and added black, white and gold stripes to the bottom half of a petal tier.
What is the inspiration for this winning cake?
The inspiration was a Giambattista Valli couture piece, that was created for Cake Central Magazine's Adore Fashion Issue.
How much time did you spend creating this cake?
About two days off and on.
What do you do while you work?
I listen to music continuously. I usually listen to the radio and switch stations every couple of hours - I love anything from classic rock to folk roots to classical to pop!
