Cake of the Month - Jessica Ting: Malaysia

Describe the cake, details and techniques: 
I used black cake lace on a sequin cake lace mat to create the black edible sequins. With the flowers, I used a frangipani cutter and cut out black petals in 2 different sizes. They were then wired, and left to dry. Then, I rolled out thin sheets of white gum paste, and used the same frangipani cutter and a smaller one, to cut out outlines of the petals. 




What is the inspiration for this winning cake?
I designed this cake based on a dress designed by Bob Mackie for Barbie. It was part of the Barbie Fashion Cake Collaboration, I was invited to take part in alongside 30 other cake artists from around the world. You can see that collection here on the blog.



How much time did you spend creating this cake?
The flowers took the most time. About 5 days, to painstakingly cut out, and stick on each outline on each petal.



What do you do while you work?
Music, for sure! Anything from house music, to Latin, to pop.
