Name: Cesar Renteria - Mexico
Business name: Cesar Renteria Cakes
Business Website: Rincon Dulce
Describe the cake, details and techniques: I used a great variety of techniques. First, the watercolor and then the application of a gold leaf. The details are based on baroque art and the elaboration of the fantasy bouquet is made with Satin Ice gum paste.
What is the inspiration for this winning cake?
My inspiration was the Pantone color Pink Quartz. The main idea was to combine cold colors and take a metallic color to potentiate it. Extravagant brides inspire the idea of the fantasy bouquet. I used petals and thorns to make some movement.
How much time did you spend creating this cake?
To make this cake, it took approximately four days. I started by doing the bouquet flowers and had to wait for them to dry completely. Then, I made the cakes - by that moment - I lost the notion of time because I was enjoying every moment of making this cake.
What do you do while you work? When I work, I like to listen to music - romantic, classic or urban - and sometimes it depends on the design of the cake. I always work with a sketch first, nevertheless, at the end the creative process has changed as well as the decorating of the cake always ends up with a deeper inspiration.
